Portzamparc meets Youri Alekseïevitch Gagarine
Certainely one of the worst buildings in Moscow, The Academy of Sciences (similar to the terrible City of Sciences in La Villette, Paris). Conceived in the 1960’s, it was finally built between 1981 and 1990 on the Southwest bank of the Moska, right before the official collapse of the USSR. The building is a scary combination of architectural totalitarism and rigid postmodernism in a uninspired neo-geometric vision of history. Text and photo Olivier Zahm
